Picture the Black Sea coast: scorching sun, hot sand, the sound of waves lapping at the shore... At first glance, it's the perfect place to disconnect from reality and rest peacefully - but it's precisely here that everything changes.

Within eyesight stands an impressive amphitheater-style structure that transforms this coastline into the country's hottest, most vibrant, and most energetic destination. This is Black Sea Arena - the region's largest multifunctional venue, reshaping the Georgian music industry year after year.

However, before this reality came to the Guria region, an enormous process and unique vision lay behind it: architectural and technical challenges and a journey that placed this location firmly on the country's cultural map.

Architecture That Has No Analogue

The foundation for Black Sea Arena's construction was laid in 2008, on the initiative of the “Kartu” Fund. From the very beginning, it was clear that the project would extend far beyond simply building a concert hall.

This is a large-scale venue spanning 30,000 square meters, designed to breathe completely new life into the region. During the construction process, the main priority was to create the most comfortable environment for guests. That's why massive infrastructure was developed, offering exceptional convenience not only to the more than 10,000 people attending concerts, but also to tourists visiting Shekvetili in general.

Speaking directly about the stage where Aerosmith, The Scorpions, Elton John, Robert Plant, Guns N' Roses, Ennio Morricone, and other musical maestros made their Georgian debuts, we must highlight the unique architectural solutions. The amphitheater-style open-air venue, featuring a 638 sq. m. stage, provides listeners with optimal sightlines, ensuring they can fully experience their favorite musicians' live performances.

Moreover, in just a few minutes, the open space transforms into a covered concert venue, thanks to the retractable roof - a solution that was genuinely innovative for Georgian standards. Protection from unpredictable weather is further enhanced by transparent lamels, which frame the captivating views of the Caucasus mountains.

All of this is the result of a unified conceptual approach, which was recognized with the German Design Award in 2020 in the Best Contemporary Architecture category. This international recognition emphasizes that Black Sea Arena's architectural and cultural significance extends far beyond Georgia's borders.

A Stage the World Listens To
Naturally, technological capabilities are critically important, but the true history of such spaces is written by the people who visit them and fill them with new ideas. In this regard, Black Sea Arena's main advantage is its ability to host both international musical events and a range of cultural and sports initiatives.

Beyond the musicians mentioned above, we've already welcomed Black Eyed Peas, Jessie J, Christina Aguilera, OneRepublic, The Killers, Thirty Seconds to Mars, and other major names in contemporary music. This further demonstrates that Black Sea Arena unites generations, musical genres, and diverse emotions in one space.

It's no exaggeration to say that this venue, built in Shekvetili, laid the groundwork for other large-scale events held under the Starring Georgia umbrella - for example, visits by Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake, and Imagine Dragons. This includes both the infrastructural readiness and the audience's emotional mindset and belief that in Georgia, too, we can experience what happens at the world's greatest arenas.

While Black Sea Arena is ready to host top-tier events year-round, listeners particularly love visiting during the summer months. The creation of Front Stage gave an additional boost to this tradition, hosting festival-style concerts and diverse musical acts. Shekvetili's guests still fondly recall the experience of listening to Empire Of The Sun, L'Impératrice, FKJ, and Jungle under the open sky - and this, it seems, is just the beginning.

The addition of this new, alternative space to Black Sea Arena's main stage has further enriched the region's musical landscape. Musical events are always particularly memorable and emotionally charged; however, we shouldn't forget that the arena's multifaceted nature also accommodates other large-scale projects.

Technical Excellence and Infrastructure

One of the unwritten rules of the music industry and the cultural sector in general is that it evolves at a rapid pace, and it's essential to keep up. This applies equally to technical equipment, which requires constant updates. In this context, it's particularly impressive that the arena is equipped with cutting-edge sound, lighting, and stage systems, enabling it to host shows that meet international standards.

Black Sea Arena is the only official Clay Paky partner in Georgia, the leading Italian lighting manufacturer, and, not to mention, its partnership with L-Acoustics, the undisputed French giant in sound systems. This technical foundation guarantees that any performance, regardless of genre or complexity, becomes an unforgettable experience for the audience.

Another treasure of the arena is the Backline system, which includes both frequently used musical instruments and rare, collector's models. Among them are classical, acoustic, and electric guitars, synthesizers, percussion instruments, and more.

Both artist and audience comfort are equally important to the Black Sea Arena and Starring Georgia teams. This is evidenced by the venue's diverse infrastructure: a VIP lounge, high-standard dressing rooms, a cinema, a medical facility, and organized parking.

Particularly noteworthy is the arena's warehouse facility, where all the technological resources that make this space unique are stored under the highest safety standards. This meticulous attention to detail ensures that every visit - whether on stage or in the audience - becomes a flawless experience.
