The Senaki Drama Theater building was constructed between 1955 and 1959. Its architect was Vakhtang Gogoladze. Over the years, the theater building suffered damage multiple times and underwent repairs; a few years ago, it was fully rehabilitated. Notably, the theater existed in Senaki long before this building was erected. The inception and development of theatrical arts in Senaki date back to the 1880s.

Did you know that…

1. In February 1881, the first theatrical performance in the town of Akhalsenaki was held by local performers. Molière’s play The Forced Physician was presented.

In 1902, the local authorities allocated a building for the Senaki theatrical troupe. After its reconstruction, the troupe was able to operate properly. This also made it possible to host touring theatrical companies from other cities in Georgia.
